My name is Ahlaiah Carmel Torkwase Nzingha.  I am a young African American woman and an aspiring Egyptologist.  When I chose the path of becoming an Egyptologist, I also made other drastic changes in my life.  At the time that I decided what I wanted to become in life, I was deeply depressed, morbidly overweight and living in Las Vegas.  I needed a change in every aspect of my life.  I made solid goals right then.  I needed to move out of Las Vegas, go to school to work towards my dream of Egyptology, and get healthy.  These goals seemed more like pipe dreams at the time, but I now live in Los Angeles and attend El Camino College.  I have also been exercising regularly for months now and have since shed 8 dress sizes through Atkins.  It was not easy to attain these goals by any means.  I have to continually push myself everday, but I am my own best motivation.  When I think of the progress that I've made then it just makes me want to further persevere.
